more-in A male escort hired by a businessman thrashed and robbed him of ?3 lakh after a “service meeting”, which was held at a hotel in Ghaziabad’s Vaishali, the police said on Friday. They said that they have arrested Shadab Gowhar alias Arman Sharma and Manpreet Kaur in connection with the case, while another woman involved in the extortion is absconding. Shadab hails from Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. They confessed to have extorted several people in pretext of providing male escort service. The police said that in a complaint filed by a 62-year-old man businessman at the Crime Branch office in Shakarpur, he stated that on September 5 he had logged on to rentmen.com — a website that offers male escort services. He selected a profile and started chatting with an escort, who identified himself as Armaan Sharma, on the website. He said they met at V3S Mall in east Delhi on September 8 and from there they went to a hotel in Ghaziabad’s Vaishali for a “service meeting”. “After the meeting, the complainant allegedly paid ?8,000 as service charge and additional ?3,000 as tip. The victim called Shadab on September 18 and asked him to meet again. The meeting was arranged at the same hotel in Vaishali,” said DCP (Crime Branch) Ram Gopal Naik. When they two men were in the room, someone knocked at the door. Shadab immediately opened the door and two women came in. Shadab started abusing and hitting the complainant. Extortion “The complainant was made to sit on his knees. Shadab demanded ?10 lakh, took away his purse, mobile phone and kept assaulting him with a rod,” Mr. Naik said. When the victim wanted to call the police, one of the women threatened that she would undress herself, run to the reception and frame him of rape. “The victim arranged ?3 lakh and signed cheques worth of ?10 lakh to free himself. Shadab and the women let him go only after he promised them to pay more. They threatened that they would put his obscene videos and pictures on the social media and also send those to his wife,” said Mr. Naik. Shadab called the victim the next day and asked him to come at Select City Mall in Saket at 3 p.m. with ?2 lakh. “The victim informed the police about the entire incident. We laid a trap and arrested Shadab and Manpreet. We have recovered ?1.8 lakh, two cheques, videos and pictures from their possession,” Mr. Naik also said. Shadab later revealed that he met the two women at a gym in Chandigarh, where he was the trainer. He then moved to Delhi and made a profile on rentmen.com. He met several people through the website and duped them. A police team has been sent to Chandigarh to nab the other woman involved in the racket.
