Multiple farmhouses and motels, falling under the jurisdiction of the North and South civic bodies, that have been found to be misusing their premises are likely to be sealed, following directions of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee. Traders’ union objectsCommenting on the move, Praveen Khandelwal, secretary general, Confederation of All India Traders Union (CAIT), said the sealing drive will cause a lot of trouble as several weddings and other functions have already been fixed to be solemnised at these farmhouses. The corporations have been directed to seal all erring establishments after issuing a 48-hour show-cause notice as to why they should not be sealed and file a compliance report by September 29. Monitoring committee member Bhure Lal said while no list of violating establishments has been issued, the corporations already have details of the farmhouses registered with them and will have to find out the violators and take necessary action. The traders’ union has also written to Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Puri and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh demanding promulgation of an ordinance to stop the sealing and offer an amnesty scheme whereby violations may be condoned after levying reasonable charges.
