Governing body asks principal of Dyal Singh College to go on leave

The principal of Dyal Singh College of Delhi University, I.S Bakshi, was on Monday asked to go on “leave” and “avoid visiting the college” by Amitabh Sinha, chairman of the governing body of the college. He did not want any other activity apart from the governing body meeting to take place to ensure safety of the members. Mr. Sinha made the request as two previous governing body meetings had been disrupted by protesting students and teachers. In an order, Mr. Sinha wrote, “Certain serious allegations regarding financial and administrative irregularities against you have been brought to the notice of the governing body of the college. Sources said that the decision was taken by Mr. Sinha after Mr. Bakshi refused to suspend classes and all other activities in the college on Monday on Mr. Sinha’s request in order to hold a governing body meeting.

The governing body in order to ensure a free and fair enquiry into these allegations, decided that you should proceed forewith on leave.” Mr. Bakshi was asked to handover all important keys of the principal’s office to the principal of Dyal Singh College (evening) Pawan Kumar Sharma, who has been entrusted to officiate as the principal of the day college as well. Sources said that the decision was taken by Mr. Sinha after Mr. Bakshi refused to suspend classes and all other activities in the college on Monday on Mr. Sinha’s request in order to hold a governing body meeting. Mr. Sinha made the request as two previous governing body meetings had been disrupted by protesting students and teachers. He did not want any other activity apart from the governing body meeting to take place to ensure safety of the members. It has been alleged that on Monday, thousands of students had to wait at the gate as guards and bouncers did not allow them to enter.
