Hit on the head When Kumar protested against their drinking in a public place, the five men allegedly picked up a fight and attacked him with a beer bottle on the head. Several traders and passers-by rushed to help Kumar after hearing his cries for help. The victim’s elder brother Siddhartha who rushed to rescue him was also attacked. He sustained stab injuries on the face. The attackers tried to flee the spot. “Siddhartha caught one of the attackers but was stabbed in his face with a sharp object. The attacker managed to flee. Of the five accused, two were held and handed over to the police,” the victim said. “The incident happened at 9.45 p.m. when I closed my shop for the day and was about to leave for home. During the scuffle, the attackers robbed me of ?65,000. The policemen refused to acknowledge it in my complaint,” Kumar said. The police said two of the accused, Rajendra and Rohit, were arrested under IPC Section 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means) registered at the Connaught Place police station. Efforts to contact DCP (New Delhi) Madhur Verma were unsuccessful. Local traders alleged that it had become a routine to assemble in the dark outside the public urinal behind Regal Building and cr eate nuisance, especially troubling women. “People buy liquor from a nearby shop and consume it in the open place. They do not fear the police as the latter hardly take action against them. We request the police to take strict action,” said trader Rakesh Singh.
