The party was in talks with Mr. Yashwant Sinha, the former Union Minister who quit the BJP in April, for the New Delhi Lok Sabha seat, two senior AAP leaders said. The AAP was also trying to convince Mr. Shatrughan Sinha, the actor-turned-politician who is currently the MP from Patna Sahib, to contest on the party ticket from West Delhi, the leaders said. Share the stage Both Mr. Yashwant Sinha and Mr. Shatrughan Sinha have spoken out against the policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. On September 9, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh’s 10-day padyatra from Saharanpur culminated at the Jan Adhikar rally in Noida. Sharing the stage with Mr. Singh were Mr. Yashwant Sinha, Mr. Shatrughan Sinha and Mr. Kejriwal. There, the AAP chief urged both leaders to contest the Lok Sabha elections, but did not name a party or constituency. Leaders incharge In June, the AAP had named the leaders incharge of five of the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi, leaving out New Delhi and West Delhi. Sources said these leaders — Atishi Marlena, Dilip Pandey, Guggan Singh Ranga, Pankaj Gupta and Raghav Chadha — were expected to be the party’s candidates from their respective seats. Speaking to reporters on September 7, AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai had said the party was reaching out to potential candidates and that the announcement of the New Delhi and West Delhi candidates could be within a week. While there has not been any announcement since, senior leaders say the talks with Mr. Yashwant Sinha and Mr. Shatrughan Sinha are on.
