New cab policy may spell end for pool rides

It was expected that a final decision would be taken in the committee’s meeting on Monday, but any decision has now been deferred till the next meeting, the date of which is yet to be decided.“Issues regarding taxis were discussed and it was clarified that the rules on contract carriage permits do not allow cabs to pick and drop passengers from multiple points, like stage carriage buses,” said a government official.

These were some of the issues that were discussed in a meeting of a high-powered committee of Delhi government on Monday, even though no final decision was taken.The five-member committee was set up in January this year to deliberate, vet and finalise policies prepared by the transport department — City Taxi Scheme 2017 , Licensing and Regulation of App-based Cab Aggregator Rules 2017 and app-based premium bus service.The committee, headed by PWD minister Satyendar Jain, also has transport minister Kailash Gahlot, chief secretary Anshu Prakash, principal secretary (finance) and former Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi vice-chairman Ashish Khetan.
