NEW DELHI: Pool rides or cab sharing might not be allowed in Delhi and cabs operating under app-based aggregator platforms might have to share real-time GPS data with the transport department. These were some of the issues that were discussed in a meeting of a high-powered committee of Delhi government on Monday, even though no final decision was taken.The five-member committee was set up in January this year to deliberate, vet and finalise policies prepared by the transport department — City Taxi Scheme 2017 , Licensing and Regulation of App-based Cab Aggregator Rules 2017 and app-based premium bus service.The committee, headed by PWD minister Satyendar Jain, also has transport minister Kailash Gahlot, chief secretary Anshu Prakash, principal secretary (finance) and former Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi vice-chairman Ashish Khetan. It was expected that a final decision would be taken in the committee’s meeting on Monday, but any decision has now been deferred till the next meeting, the date of which is yet to be decided.“Issues regarding taxis were discussed and it was clarified that the rules on contract carriage permits do not allow cabs to pick and drop passengers from multiple points, like stage carriage buses,” said a government official. “Taxis could also be asked to provide parking proof before getting a permit and they would have to use only green fuels, such as CNG or LPG. Vehicles registered in other states and operating as taxis in Delhi would need to have their permits countersigned in Delhi,” he added. Currently, cabs operating under the app-based aggregator platforms are not tracked through GPS by the transport department, but the committee wants them to provide access to their GPS location, including cabs registered in other states.
