Delhi govt plans new common mobility card

NEW DELHI: While commuters can currently use Delhi Metro smart cards to travel in Delhi Transport Corporation DTC ) and cluster scheme buses , Delhi government plans to bring out a rebranded common mobility card called ‘One’.The government also plans to provide 10% discount on bus travel through these cards to make them popular. In January 2018, Delhi joined the ranks of London, Hong Kong and Singapore with the launch of its own common mobility card in 250 buses, which could be used in both Delhi Metro as well as public transport buses. From August this year, the facility was made available in all 3,882 buses of DTC and 1,757 buses in the cluster scheme.The government now plans to re-launch the common mobility card and name it as ‘One’. “We have tied up with DMRC and very soon, the new ‘One’ cards will sport the logos of not just Delhi Metro, but also DTC and Delhi government.

This will ensure that travellers are aware that they can use these cards in buses also,” a transport department official said. “This is basically rebranding of Delhi Metro cards for creating awareness about the common mobility options available to commuters,” he added.While at present, smart cards can only be bought or recharged at Delhi Metro stations, sources said, the facility would be made available at bus depots, terminals, ISBTs and railway stations also. Efforts are on to provide these cards at busy ISBTs such as Kashmere Gate, Sarai Kale Khan and Anand Vihar.The common mobility cards have not been popular since DTC and cluster scheme buses were equipped with Electronic Ticketing Machines (ETM). To encourage more commuters to use these cards in buses too, the government plans to provide 10% discount on bus tickets for common mobility card users.
