Ruckus in S corpn meet over ‘illegal parking fee’

New Delhi: The issue of ‘illegal parking fees’ being charged by malls and hospitals in south Delhi led to a two-hour ruckus in the house meeting of the south corporation on Tuesday. Raising placards and slogans, AAP representatives alleged that BJP leaders have colluded with mall owners, who are being allowed to illegally charge parking fees Shikha Rai, the standing committee chairman, clarified that her statement regarding “allowing malls to charge a fee of Rs 20 per hour as per a court order in case of specific malls” in Monday’s standing committee was only at deliberation level and no final decision has been taken. “We were thinking about using this measure only for capping the exorbitant fee currently being charged by malls,” Rai said.Mayor Narender Chawla, leader of the house Kamaljeet Sehrawat and Rai jointly addressed the press to clarify that SDMC still considers that “malls and hospitals are illegally charging parking fee, except in the cases where the court has provided interim relief to the establishment.” Sehrawat said that there is a “no tolerance” policy as far as hospitals are concerned.Meanwhile, suspension warning notices have been issued to a 15 AAP councillors and MLA Jarnail Singh for misconduct in the house.
