South Delhi Municipal Corporation cracks whip on air pollution violations

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has been continuing its action against air pollution in all its four zones. On Thursday, concerned officers slapped challans on citizens of Delhi who'd defaulted the provisions of the National Green Tribunal Act and the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act. In all, 106 challans have been issued on Thursday at the South Zone. Under West Zone, 24 challans were issued under the NGT Act for burning of leaves and garbage and 60 challans under the DMC Act. And finally, at South Zone, 19 challans were issued for construction activities and 13 for burning of garbage under the NGT Act, and 74 general challans under the DMC Act.

In all, 248 challans were issued over the course of the day. Under West Zone, 24 challans were issued under the NGT Act for burning of leaves and garbage and 60 challans under the DMC Act. The defaulters included four mechanical sweepers who were deployed by the civic body to ensure cleanliness on the roads, while 52 tankers were deployed for sprinkling water with an aim to settle down the dust. Under Central Zone, six challans were issued under the NGT Act for burning leaves and garbage and 14 general challans and four mobile challans under the DMC Act, making it a total of 24 challans that were issued over the course of Thursday. Under Najafgarh Zone, meanwhile, two challans have been issued under the NGT Act and 18 general challans and 14 challans issued under the DMC Act/SWM bylaws, making it a total of 34 challans in all that were issued on Thursday. And finally, at South Zone, 19 challans were issued for construction activities and 13 for burning of garbage under the NGT Act, and 74 general challans under the DMC Act. In all, 106 challans have been issued on Thursday at the South Zone.
