The girl is recuperating at a government hospital, police said. According to police, she was kidnapped on the intervening night of Friday-Saturday while she was sleeping with her mother on the footpath. Following a complaint from the mother, police began a search. By Saturday afternoon, police were tipped off by staffers at the government hospital that a girl was found on the tracks. “Police questioned people living on the footpath as they suspected the accused was homeless,” said a police officer, adding that CCTV footage from the area was also scanned which helped them identify him. As per hospital officials, the girl underwent a surgery Saturday and her condition is stable. In the evening, DCW chairperson Swati Maliwal visited the child.
