NEW DELHI: In an unusual incident, a four-year-old girl was allegedly assaulted sexually by a classmate of the same age in a private school in outer Delhi's Ranhola. The matter came to the notice of police on Wednesday afternoon when the girl’s parents filed a complaint upon which a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered. On Thursday morning, demanding action against the institution’s staff, the girl’s parents and around 50 people, including parents and relatives of other students, gathered at the school. They entered the school building saying they wanted to meet the principal, but misbehaved with the staff members, and even vandalised the premises.Heavy police deployment was rushed to the location to ensure that no student got hurt in the proceedings. A police officer said that they registered a case after the school filed a complaint about trespassing and destruction of school property by the mob.On Wednesday, in her complaint to the cops, the girl’s mother alleged that her daughter returned home from school and complained of pain in her private parts in the evening. She took the child to a hospital nearby, where the doctors told the stunned mother that they suspected the kid might have been sexually assaulted. The woman said that she took her daughter home and gently asked her what had happened in school. Between sobs, the four-year-old told the mother that a classmate had indulged in an inappropriate act in the classroom with her. The mother immediately informed the girl’s father, and they together approached the Ranhola police station, where a case under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, prescribing punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault against a child, was registered. The girl’s mother told police that while shocked by the incident she wasn’t there to complain about the perpetrator of the sexual assault, but to express her dismay at the fact that she sent her daughter to the school believing in her being safely guided by her teachers only to face such an attack.Seju P Kuruvilla, DCP (Outer), said the cops registered a case immediately after the woman filed the complaint and a police team is taking appropriate action. He confirmed that a second case was also registered after the school authorities complained about the fracas on its premises. No arrests have been made yet in either case.Cops will be questioning the teachers and the helps in the school to determine if the sexual assault was carried out by the four-year-old boy or whether there was someone else involved.
