Judge's kin murder: Another judge is key witness

GURUGRAM: A judge from Bihar was present at Arcadia market in Sector 51 on October 13 when personal security officer (PSO) Mahipal shot the wife and son of Gurugram additional sessions judge Krishan Kant.The judge recorded a video at the time, which shows the 38-year-old PSO dragging the son’s body and later leaving the crime scene. Now, he is one of the key witnesses of the prosecution.The judge was visiting the city and was at Arcadia market (in South City-2) for some work when he heard a gunshot and went to find out what was happening. Seven witnesses have been called for the first hearing in the case on February 1.The final investigation report concluded that Mahipal shot the judge’s wife and son after an argument on handing over car keys.Police said they had both circumstantial and forensic evidence to establish their case. Mahipal, the PSO of judge Krishan Kant, had shot Ritu twice, in the chest and stomach, and Dhruv thrice, once on the shoulder and twice in the head, with his service revolver before driving away from the crime scene.The judge made a video and later submitted it to police.Mahipal is set to face trial for murder from February 1.

Besides the judge, a youth who was also present at the market on October 13 and a shopkeeper have been listed by police as eyewitnesses in the case.The trial will commence in the court of district and sessions judge R K Sondhi who, on Wednesday, framed charges against Mahipal under sections 302 (murder) and 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC and Section 27 of the Arms Act.In its final investigation report submitted before the court on December 26, police listed a total of 81 witnesses, including the three eyewitnesses.The other witnesses include doctors from Paras Hospital where the injured were initially taken and Medanta Hospital, forensic experts and cops associated with the investigation. The residue of gun powder on Mahipal’s hand and the steering wheel of the car he drove away in from the crime scene, the locations of the accused and victims as per their mobile phones, a confessional phone call made by Mahipal to judge Krishan Kant, and a compilation of videos of the crime that surfaced on social media comprise key evidence against Mahipal.After the arrest, police had taken samples from Mahipal’s hand and the car’s steering wheel.
