East Delhi: 28-year-old man killed in scuffle between rival gangs

Police said that the two groups had an old rivalry and cross-FIRs were registered in this regard. According to the police, the deceased has been identified as Ankit Kumar while his friend Suresh is undergoing treatment. "The incident took place at around 11 pm on Thursday at block number-14 in Trilokpuri where Ankit and Suresh were sitting around a bonefire when their four neighbours, identified as Sachin, Shubham, Vishal and Annu, were passing by," said Pankaj Singh, deputy commissioner of police (East). The police said the four men mocked the two by saying that they were "using the bonfire like women", following which an argument broke out between the two groups. "During the argument, Suresh and Ankit slapped Shubham, after which a scuffle broke out, in which Annu and Vishal overpowered Ankit and Suresh while Shubham and Sachin stabbed them multiple times. At the same time, Ankit's friends Rakesh and Dharmu also joined them and attacked the four with bricks," said Singh. Locals and family members then intervened and separated them. Shubham's father also received minor injuries in the clash. Police said that Ankit and Suresh were admitted to a nearby hospital, where Ankit succumbed to his injuries early on Saturday morning. "The police have registered cross-FIRs against both groups. While one attacker, identified as Shubham, was arrested on Saturday evening, efforts are on to nab the other absconding suspects," said Singh. Suresh's brother Durgesh told the police that a similar fight had taken place between his brother and Sachin six years ago, and even that time, Sachin had allegedly stabbed Suresh with a knife. Suresh's family had filed a case against Sachin. But the matter between them was later resolved and Suresh's family withdrew the case. Meanwhile, family members of the deceased blocked the roads and staged a protest demanding the arrest of the accused. The police said the four men mocked the two by saying that they were using the bonfire like women, following which an argument broke out.
