NOIDA: A group of residents from Hoshiarpur village on Wednesday protested outside Sector 34 metro station of the Blue Line extension demanding that the Aqua Line metro stations be named after the villages where they are located.In 2017 too, many farmers had submitted letters to the managing director of Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) Santosh Yadav demanding that every metro station coming up on the Blue and Aqua lines be named after the nearest village. However, with most metro stations of the Aqua Line up for sale of co-branding rights, the demand seems unlikely to be approved. “These metro stations have come up in areas adjoining the villages whose existence is slowly getting lost. We demand that the names of the villages can at least be used as part of metro station’s name,” said Nabbu Singh from Hoshiarpur village.The farmers have already met Noida Authority CEO Alok Tandon, Gautam Budh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma and Noida MLA Pankaj Singh raising their demands.Noida Authority officials say the committee which decided on the names of the stations had finalised the names on the basis of sectors. A NMRC official said the demand was not likely to be taken up by the Authority as the possibility was ruled out in a board meeting earlier.
