Studentsrsquo group at JNU to clean caves of litter

NEW DELHI: A group of JNU students have decided to start a ‘Clean the Caves’ campaign on the campus. The group members said that they began working during the last JNU Student Union elections.“On the voting day we picked up all the campaigning papers that were scattered around our campus. The collected papers were given to an NGO, which recycled and reused them,” Kumar said.“After cleaning the caves, we plan to cover other areas of the campus and start another campaign to make JNU plastic-free,” Kumar added.The campaign is likely to take place on February 16 and students will get their own equipment to clean the area. It was an initiative by just a few of us but we were joined by a number of students who saw us sweeping the floor with our hands and picking each and every paper from the floors. The students said that around 15 caves in the forest area are littered by those who go there for picnic and leave the garbage behind.“The campaign is an initiative by a group of students who are concerned about the environment and want to preserve the natural beauty on the JNU campus,” said Mukesh Kumar a member of the ‘Good Samaritans of JNU’, a non-political group of students who are involved in cleaning activity on the campus.Kumar said that while there are currently over 70 students who are part of the initiative, more students are joining the group.
