Six get 10year jail for Gurugram SHO abduction

GURUGRAM: Six persons have been awarded 10-year jail terms in connection with the 2016 abduction of a Gurugram police SHO. The SHO was beaten up and the accused started driving the car. Phogat was in his uniform and on a hunch, he got out of his car and started questioning the youths. Of the eight involved in the abduction, police nabbed seven the same year, of whom one escaped their clutches after he got bail .

GURUGRAM: Six persons have been awarded 10-year jail terms in connection with the 2016 abduction of a Gurugram police SHO. The then SHO of Sector 29 police station was held captive for several hours and then dumped in Mathura. Of the eight involved in the abduction, police nabbed seven the same year, of whom one escaped their clutches after he got bail . The eighth one was never caught.Additional sessions judge Suruchi Atreja Singh on Tuesday awarded 10-year imprisonment to all the six arrested persons and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 on each. The two absconders have been declared “proclaimed offenders” by court.The accused includes Khalid, Hayum alias Hallu alias Dana, Aabid, Saleem, another person named Khalid (all residents of Palwal), Islamuddin and Liyakat (both residents of Mewat), and Surender (a resident of Jhajjar). They are all in the age group of 25-30 years.Liyakat was never caught while Hayum managed to escape. At the time of appearing in court, both Khalids, Surender and Saleem had been out on bail while Islamuddin and Aabid were in custody. The first four accused were arrested after the court order and have now been sent to jail.Around 11.30am on June 30, 2016, inspector Surender Singh Phogat, the then SHO of Sector 29 police station was driving in his private car towards the DCP (east) office in Sushant Lok from Sector 29 police station on some work. He took a turn towards Galleria Market and when he reached the cut for Sushant Lok near the A&B block, he spotted four suspicious-looking youths. Phogat was in his uniform and on a hunch, he got out of his car and started questioning the youths. Then he decided to drive them to the police station for further enquiries and made three of them sit in the back of his car while the fourth sat next to him.However, as soon as the inspector started his car, one of the youths from the back seat attacked him. The SHO was beaten up and the accused started driving the car. After two hours of driving around, they put him in the car’s boot space. On reaching a jungle area, they met with four more persons who were in a Scorpio.The SHO was held captive in the boot space for another six-seven hours. Then the accused took his two mobile phones, ATM cards and forced him to share the password. They withdrew some money with his ATM card and dropped him in the Kosi area of Mathura.The inspector somehow managed to reach Gurugram and on July 1, 2016, an FIR was registered at the Sector 29 police station under IPC sections 186 (obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), 353 (assaulting public servant), 365 (kidnapping), 392 (robbery), 394 (attempting to commit robbery), 395 (dacoity) and 34 (common intention). On July 29, police managed to arrest Khalid, Aabid and Hayum, and later arrested four others.Public prosecutor Raj Kumar said that the case was an example of the protector turning victim. Seeking exemplary punishment, he said that the SHO was not only obstructed from performing his duties but also attacked and taken captive, giving the entire edifice of maintaining law and order a jolt.
