GURUGRAM: A kindergarten student was allegedly forced to do 120 sit-ups by his class teacher in Sector 52 for “making noise in class”. The parents of the eight-year-old boy were about to file a police complaint on Wednesday, but the school persuaded them to settle the issue amicably.The LKG student’s father said the boy was talking to friends in Navdisha Primary School on Saturday when the class teacher gave him the punishment. “The teacher, Shweta, asked him to do non-stop sit-ups. When my son said his legs were hurting, she didn’t show any mercy. I was going to police but relented after the school requested us not to do so,” said Dinesh Singh, the father. Navdisha Primary School, which has around 200 students, hasn’t been recognised by the government.Meanwhile, the class teacher told TOI that she had asked the kid to do 20 sit-ups. “Three students were making noise in class, so I asked all of them to do 20 sit-ups. While two students later sat in their seats, the boy was continuously doing sit-ups while I was checking copies,” Shweta said.The school said some sort of punishment is necessary as teachers aren’t allowed to hit students. “I told the parents that it was the student’s mistake. We are not against any child, but discipline needs to be enforced in the school,” school principal Sunita Yadav said.
