NEW DELHI: Days after a six-year-old child was shot dead by a group of criminals while he was looking out of the window of his house to check a firing incident at a gym in Inderpuri, cops have arrested two men for the crime.The accused claimed to have seen the child, Prince Kumar, at the window of his house and decided to shoot him since he had seen their faces and could have identified them later. The men had gone to the gym to shoot the owner, with whom they had a dispute.Kumar’s father, Sarvesh, recalled how the bullet made a hole through his son’s head. “All he did was to look out of the window to check the commotion outside. We suddenly saw him fall backwards and lay motionless. I wonder what the men must have thought to have shot a six-year-old fearing that he might report them to the police,” he said.Kumar stayed with his elder siblings, Vikas and Rohit, and their mother, Geeta, at a flat near Block C where the incident took place. Sarvesh works as a daily labourer at factory in Naraina , while Geeta is a homemaker.The accused, Kartik Ramalingam and Vishal Naidu, are residents of a JJ colony nearby and had allegedly fallen out with the gym owner and his brother. They had gone to the gym to take revenge. When they did not find the owner of the gym, they dragged his brother and shot at him. Before leaving, they fired a few rounds in the air. Hearing gunshots, the neighbours rushed out to their balconies to have a look at the incident.According to the police, Naidu noticed that Kumar was peeping out of the window and asked Kartik to fire back at him. They subsequently fired 10-12 rounds before fleeing.“If a six-year-old child is not safe in his own house, what else can we expect from the police and the government? We are still trying to cope with his absence,” rued Sarvesh. The family hails from Bihar and had shifted to the area in 2013. They got their children admitted to a government school nearby.Sarvesh said that Geeta has been inconsolable since the incident. She had got a box of sweets that she had promised to give Kumar if he completed his studies for his exam the next day. The family has kept the sweets aside for Kumar’s funeral ritual.A case of murder has been registered against the duo, said police. Both Naidu and Kartik are criminals involved in previous cases of robbery and assault.Two country-made weapons and five live rounds have been recovered from them.
