Print from chopped finger helps nab pickpocket

NEW DELHI: A severed finger found at the scene of a crime helped the police track a pickpocket who went on a stabbing spree inside a running bus in west Delhi's Vikaspuri on Sunday evening. During the scuffle, Rahul slashed one of the passenger's arm but suffered an injury from his own knife. Dharambir was taken into custody first and he took cops to Rahul's shelter. After developing a fingerprint from it, cops used their database to nab two men involved in the crime.DCP (west) Monika Bhardwaj said the accused had been identified as Rahul alias Ganja and Dharambir. However, the two managed to flee.Investigators fed the fingerprint into the online system containing dossiers of local criminals and it yielded a match with Rahul.

Rahul had stabbed three passengers in an escape bid after some of them had cornered him for allegedly stealing a wallet.Complainant Ranjit Yadav told cops that while searching for the wallet, they found one youth dropping it on the bus floor, but as soon as he was questioned, his associate pulled out a knife. During the scuffle, Rahul slashed one of the passenger's arm but suffered an injury from his own knife. However, the two managed to flee.Investigators fed the fingerprint into the online system containing dossiers of local criminals and it yielded a match with Rahul. CCTV footage from the area was also scanned to trace the escape route.Rahul had gone to a doctor where he had said he was injured in a household accident. Dharambir was taken into custody first and he took cops to Rahul's shelter. Both of them have multiple cases of robbery registered against them.
