Union Home Minister Amit Shah pays homage to martyrs

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage to the martyrs at the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Delhi on Monday. Shah also met top officials of the ministry as well as Central Armed Police Force chiefs. The ministry said that Shah's first public engagement after assuming charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday was visiting police memorial. Shah said India is secured because of the supreme sacrifice of the police martyrs. Shah also visited the National Police Museum where officials explained to him various exhibits depicting police history, valour and achievements made in different theatres across the country.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah paid homage to the martyrs at the National Police Memorial (NPM) in Delhi on Monday. Shah also met top officials of the ministry as well as Central Armed Police Force chiefs. The ministry said that Shah's first public engagement after assuming charge of the Ministry of Home Affairs on Saturday was visiting police memorial. "I salute their valour and courage. A grateful nation is indebted to them for their supreme sacrifice," he said after paying homage. He was received at the memorial by Union home secretary Rajiv Gauba, director Intelligence Bureau Rajiv Jain, directors general of Central Armed Police Forces and other senior officers. He also discussed a few critical issues and challenges India's internal security is facing. Shah said India is secured because of the supreme sacrifice of the police martyrs. "I visited the National Police Memorial this morning and paid tributes to our martyrs of the central and state police forces, who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty," he tweeted after visiting the memorial located in the Capital's Pancharipuri area. Shah also visited the National Police Museum where officials explained to him various exhibits depicting police history, valour and achievements made in different theatres across the country. He said, "Our great nation is safe today because of their supreme sacrifices. I pay my utmost respects to those martyrs and their families. This visit gave me more inspiration and energy to serve our nation." On Saturday after assuming charge as Home Minister, Gauba and joint secretaries of all the departments of the ministry gave presentations about its role, functions, achievements and challenges concerning their departments. "It was a kind of presentation which was more of a familiarisation exercise," said a senior MHA officer. Further, Shah has asked all the joint secretaries to give detailed presentations of challenges they are facing and also new initiatives they can take to make changes in current scenarios.
