"I am personally looking into the matter, there are some technical issues which we are working on thereafter the cabinet note will be prepared soon. We are also pursuing the same matter with the DMRC and the proposal of free ride for women scheme will get the approvals soon, said Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal. The Delhi CM ensured that the scheme will be implemented as early as possible. Earlier, on the second week of July Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot reportedly said that the cabinet note would be prepared by the end of the week as the note was almost prepared. After the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation told the Delhi government that to implement this scheme for the metro will take around 8 months, therefore, the Delhi government planned to bring two different cabinet notes on the matter. The first one would be for the Delhi government buses and the second one for the metro. The Delhi government currently has 5,521 buses that ply across Delhi-NCR. The citys state-run buses have a daily ridership of over four million of which nearly 31 perecent are women. The DMRC is also exploring ways to take forward the Delhi governments decision to make metro rides free for women while keeping in mind the financial implication and technical feasibility associated with the proposal. Announcing the proposal, Kejriwal had said that his government will provide subsidy to the three public transporters for providing free rides to women commuters in DTC buses and Delhi Metro.
