Over 20K security forces guard Capital on Independence Day

Police said that elaborate traffic arrangements around Red Fort have been made.

According to Delhi Police, they have given training of soft skills to lower rank personnel who will interact with guests who come to Red Fort area. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa told Millennium Post that face recognition cameras have been installed and anti-drone teams have been deployed around five-kilometres of Redfort. "Apart from maintaining security, we have also trained cops with soft skills. They will guide guests and other residents going towards North Delhis Red Fort area," said DCP Central. He further stated that the city has been placed under high-security cover to avoid any terror strike or untoward incident. Snipers have been stationed atop high-rise buildings. Sources said that Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, in a recent meeting, reviewed the security measures taken by districts for Independence Day. According to police, they have identified vulnerable spots such as crowded markets, railway stations, bus stands and other high-value establishments, and efforts are being made to secure them. Recently, Special Cell, keeping in view of the increased threat from various terrorist groups to create disturbances, had undertaken the exercise of combing the sensitive areas in the city. Sources said that during checking several shortcomings were noticed in various hotels, guest houses, busy markets, taxi stands, parking lots, cyber cafes, PG accommodations, cinema halls, malls. The Delhi Police also registered more than 100 cases against hotels, guest houses and cyber cafes in the city over security-related negligence. The law enforcement agency also issued traffic advisory in connection with Independence Day. Police said that elaborate traffic arrangements around Red Fort have been made. Detailed traffic deployment will be in place to facilitate the movement of VIP vehicles, invitees and the general public to reach the place of function and also to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic in other parts of the city. In its traffic advisory, the Delhi Traffic Police said that roads like Netaji Subhash Marg from Delhi Gate to Chatta Rail, Lothian Road from GPO Delhi to Chatta Rail, SP Mukherjee Marg from H C Sen Marg to Yamuna Bazar Chowk, Chandni Chowk Road from Fountain Chowk to Red Fort, Nishad Raj Marg from Ring Road to Netaji Subhash Marg, Esplanade Road and its Link Road to Netaji Subhash Marg and Ring Road from Rajghat to Y-Point-Hanuman Setu will be closed for general traffic from 4:00 am to 10:00 am and only labelled vehicles will be permitted.
