Often embroiled in corruption deals to mental pressure, police officials in South Haryana districts like Gurugram, Faridabad have either been murdered or committed suicide. Most of the police officials in Gurugram have often been criticised of not taking proper steps during the encounter with criminal gangs. In 2018, a top builder from Gurugram committed suicide and it was alleged by his wife that in connivance with the Delhi-based businessman and a police official of DCP rank he was forced to commit suicide.

Faridabad: Not only the nearby residents but even top police officials of Faridabad police were left shell shocked when the news came to the fore that Faridabad New Industrial Town (NIT) Deputy Commissioner of Police Vikramjit Singh Kapoor allegedly committed suicide. He allegedly shot himself with a service revolver that he had borrowed from Inspector Mukesh who was deputed for his security. The incident occurred at around 6:00 am on Wednesday in his residence. Kapoor had been living at Police Colony in Sector 30 here with his wife. He was due to retire next year. According to law enforcement officials, the incident occurred after Kapoor came back from his morning walk. After getting to know that his wife was in the washroom and his son Arjun was sleeping, the DCP took his life by placing the revolver in his mouth and shooting the trigger. Shockingly, in a suicide note that was recovered by the investigators, the deceased alleged that he was blackmailed by the Abdul Sayyed who is the Station House Officer (SHO) of Bhupani police station in the city. He has also blamed a local resident. After the revelation, the law enforcement officials have detained both the accused for questioning. "We have registered an FIR on charges of blackmailing and abetment to suicide against both the accused on the basis of the suicide note and the written complaint was given by the deceaseds wife," said Sube Singh, the Faridabad police spokesperson. Kapoor, 59, had been promoted to the IPS in 2017. He joined as ASI in 1983. He was appointed the DCP NIT here last year, he had earlier occupied the post of the DCP (headquarters) here. He had also served as ACP (Traffic) and ACP NIT here a few years ago. Most of the senior police officials, including Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar, reached the spot after the news of the death of the police officer was shared. A resident of Ambala, Kapoor is survived by his wife and two sons. While his elder son is working in Panchkula his younger son is living with his parents. Kapoor was about to retire the next year. As per sources, he was involved in a lot of spiritual activities recently. Among the last such events that were attended by him was Brahma Kumari event where he apparently tied a rakhi to one of the Brahma Kumaris. "DCP Vikram Kapoor was a hardworking officer. His death has left us shell shocked and disappointed. We are investigating the reasons behind his untimely death," said Sanjay Kumar, Faridabad police commissioner. The shady deals involving the police officials did not end there. Most of the police officials in Gurugram have often been criticised of not taking proper steps during the encounter with criminal gangs. In one of the shocking incidents that were reported in the same year, a police guard brazenly shot dead Additional district judge Krishna Kants wife and son on October 13. In order to reduce stress among the police officials and make sure that officials are able to spend a reasonable amount of time with their family, the first daycare centre for children of police officials will be set up in the Sector-65 police station. When implemented, this is going to be first of its kind initiative not only in the city but even in the state of Haryana. This is one of the major steps being taken to reduce stress levels among officials and ensure that they spend more time with the family.
