Police NGOs discuss women safety

Police sources told Millennium Post the meeting was held at the Special Police Unit for Women & Children (SPUWAC) in Malviya Nagar area. It was presided by Special Commissioner of Police (Women Safety, SPUWAC & SPUNER). In the meeting, issues like dark spots, community sensitisation, surveillance on drug peddling were discussed. Thereafter, Special CP suggested few points in the meeting that "there should be interaction amongst police, NGOs and public at the grass-root level". If NGOs want to meet with district DCP, they may seek an appointment and raise their issues itself.

New Delhi: Security of shelter homes, police patrolling, constables training, surveillance on the illegal supply of drugs were the issues which were raised and discussed in the meeting held between Delhi Police and 17 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working on womens safety in the city. Police sources told Millennium Post the meeting was held at the Special Police Unit for Women & Children (SPUWAC) in Malviya Nagar area. It was presided by Special Commissioner of Police (Women Safety, SPUWAC & SPUNER). As many as 26 representatives from 17 NGOs attended the meeting. In the meeting, issues like dark spots, community sensitisation, surveillance on drug peddling were discussed. "One of the NGO officials raised a point that security of shelter homes should be strengthened. Another member said that district-level meeting with NGOs should be organised regularly," sources said. In the meeting, the discussion was also held on the topic related to training of constables about how to interact with women and children of sexual violence. Thereafter, Special CP suggested few points in the meeting that "there should be interaction amongst police, NGOs and public at the grass-root level". Adding further, the senior police officer said that the NGOs should submit their complaint, if any, in writing to the concerned DCP/ACP/SHO. They should also have the phone numbers of police officers in their areas. "Soft skill programmes are being organised in districts. NGOs should identify suitable areas to organise the programme. NGOs and the general public should come forward with their issues so that the same could be resolved," was one of the points suggested by Special CP. The Special CP further suggested that the specific issues of a particular area should be raised. If NGOs want to meet with district DCP, they may seek an appointment and raise their issues itself.
