To restore ecological balance NDMC to recycle Lodhi Garden Lake water

New Delhi: In a bid to restore ecological balance and to transform the New Delhi area into an environment-friendly area, NDMC Chairman Vijay Kumar Dev announced on Wednesday that a detailed plan has been made out to recycle the water in the Lodhi Garden Lake, under the Jal Shakti Abhiyaan. Expressing his pleasure over the maintenance and upkeeping of the Lodhi Garden by the Horticulture Department of the Council, Dev said that it is really a very beautiful and well-maintained garden, which is located in the heart of the capital city. A Water Treatment Plant has been provided by the Rotary Club South Delhi Chapter and the bottom sludge will be converted into useful compost. The Rotary Club had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the NDMC for cleaning the water of the lake through the treatment plant. The Bio Remediation of the lake water will be carried out through the natural microbial / enzymes so as to control the foul smell and the growth of harmful algae without affecting the aquatic life.

Chairman Dev was at the park on Wednesday, when he announced the decision to reporters. While reviewing the water conservation plan for the lake, he asked the concerned officers of the Council to ensure timely completion of the work and also instructed them to make room for a separate enclosure for stray dogs to be maintained properly. Dev also planted saplings of Rudraksha and Kalpvirksh trees to mark the occasion. Expressing his pleasure over the maintenance and upkeeping of the Lodhi Garden by the Horticulture Department of the Council, Dev said that it is really a very beautiful and well-maintained garden, which is located in the heart of the capital city. He added that it is an appropriate place, where one can relax from the metropolitan stress in his leisure hours. Thousands of vibrant morning and evening joggers have had been visiting regularly in the garden and had been benefited with the fresh air and healthy environment, he said. Outlining the details of the Duck Habitation in the Garden, Secretary-NDMC Secretary Rashmi Singh also said that the Council has developed an enclosure of natural environment for the ducks, wherein a number of spices of ducks have been habituated. And added that efforts are being made to protect these ducks and their eggs from the stray animals, dogs, and other hazards.
