The hearing in CBI court that lasted for over one-and-a-half-hour, Chidambaram`s counsel Kapil Sibal and Abhishek M Singhvi opposed the CBI`s plea by saying that the former union minister was not a flight risk.

The CBI on Thursday got the custody of former union finance minister P Chidambaram for four days, something that investigation agency wanted for long. After high drama, Chidambaram was finally arrested by CBI on Wednesday night. Before this, CBI and ED both the investigation agencies went to Congress leaders house at Jor Bagh but returned bare handed as Chidambaram was not at home.

The hearing in CBI court that lasted for over one-and-a-half-hour, Chidambaram`s counsel Kapil Sibal and Abhishek M Singhvi opposed the CBI`s plea by saying that the former union minister was not a flight risk.

Sibal also told the court that Chidambaram never skipped interrogation. “Investigation complete as draft charge sheet is ready. The sanction was sought. The FIPB approval is given by six government secretaries, none have been arrested. This is a case of documentary evidence. He (Chidambaram) has never skipped interrogation," ANI quoted Sibal as saying.

Despite rigorous efforts both the leaders failed to rescue Chidambaram from CBI`s custody but P Chidambaram son Karti Chidambaram was impressed with the arguments of Kapil Sibbal and Abhishek M Singhvi in CBI court. Karti Chidambaram even suggested that these court proceedings should be video recorded and  will be useful for law students.

Karti wrote on twitter

"It’s a privilege to hear @KapilSibal and @DrAMSinghvi

in court. Master class. They should video record all court proceedings. Will be most useful to all students of law, particularly those interested in court craft."
