NEW DELHI: Heavy rains lashed Delhi and Noida on Thursday afternoon. Delhi witnessed heavy waterlogging in many parts due to the rain. Vehicular movement was also affected in many areas. The sudden downpour brought respite from hot and humid weather conditions. The IMD predicted that on Sunday Delhi is likely to witness heavy shower again. According to IMD, with the low-pressure area moving over Uttar Pradesh, wind pattern has reversed over Delhi-NCR to humid northeasterly. Moreover, humid winds from the Arabian Sea are also reaching the northwestern plains. As a result, a meeting of winds from opposite directions have resulted in the formation of a confluence zone over Delhi, hence leading to rains. Intense clouding can be seen over parts of Delhi, particularly over northern areas along with Noida and Faridabad. Some areas have already reported light rain and thundershowers, while others would start anytime now. However, these rains would be patchy in nature and not widespread. The intensity would be mainly light, with some intense spells over a few areas only. These rains would not have much impact on the temperature profile as they would be short-lived. Rains are most likely to subside by tomorrow. According to weathermen, there is no weather system which is directly impacting Delhi-NCR and its only the peripherals of the system reaching the city. Thus, we do not expect any significant rainy spell. A good rainy spell is likely to approach Delhi around August 25, wherein most parts of the city could see rains. Monsoon mayhem continues across India as large areas across Punjab and Haryana remained affected by floodwaters which have submerged crops and marooned villagers. A similar situation is prevailing in Haryana. In Delhi, the Yamuna continued to flow above the danger mark on Wednesday evening but was now showing a receding trend. However, the situation is still critical. The water level rose due to rain in northern India and discharge of water from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana. Thousands of people living along the banks of the river in Delhi were moved to safer places. They have been asked to stay in the tents until the water level comes down to normal. Rail and vehicular traffic on the Old Yamuna Bridge were suspended as the water level rose.
