DSGMC prez reminds Sonia of 84’ riots

Questions claim on ‘era of peace’Tribune news ServiceNew Delhi, August 23The Delhi Sikh Gurudwara Management Committee (DSGMC) president Manjinder Singh Sirsa has expressed shock and surprise at the statement of Congress president Sonia Gandhi in which she had termed Rajiv Gandhi's tenure as an era of peace. Sirsa said that by terming it as an era of peace, without fear and good from every angle was like rubbing salt on the wounds of Sikhs who faced the most brutal anti-Sikh riots in November 1984. Reminding Sonia about the reality of the Rajiv Gandhi government days, the DSGMC president said that era was always remembered as an era of gross injustice, full of fear and terror for minorities specially Sikhs and a government which rewarded and awarded those who killed Sikhs. Sirsa said people had expected that when she would speak about 1984, she would express regret and feel sorry for the riots.
