Massive security arrangements mark Jaitley s last rites

Delhi Police made elaborate arrangements for the funeral procession as Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik himself supervised the arrangements along with DCP Central MS Randhawa. Traffic police made elaborate arrangements for easy passage of the funeral procession along the roads. Keeping the funeral procession in view, the Delhi Traffic police had issued an advisory on their official Twitter handle. The mortal remains of Arun Jaitley were taken to the Nigambodh Ghat for cremation. Jaitley was cremated at around 3 pm at the Nigambodh Ghat with full state honours.

New Delhi: The traffic volume was intense on the Ring Road and areas around the Indraprasth flyover and Chandagi Ram Akhara on Sunday afternoon as the funeral of former Union Minister and BJP stalwart Arun Jaitley took place at Nigambodh Ghat crematorium on Sunday afternoon. The VVIPs along with Delhis whos who accompanied by ambassadors of various countries too visited the Ghat to pay homage to the deceased BJP leader. Delhi Police made elaborate arrangements for the funeral procession as Delhi Police chief Amulya Patnaik himself supervised the arrangements along with DCP Central MS Randhawa. Traffic police made elaborate arrangements for easy passage of the funeral procession along the roads. The procession also passed through ITO, though Sunday was some respite for daily commuters as less traffic was seen on Delhi roads. Keeping the funeral procession in view, the Delhi Traffic police had issued an advisory on their official Twitter handle. The advisory cautioned commuters about the heavy traffic between 1 pm to 5 pm on Sunday and recommended motorists to avoid the aforementioned stretch of the Ring Road. The mortal remains of Arun Jaitley were taken to the Nigambodh Ghat for cremation. He was kept at the BJP headquarters for several hours in the morning for party workers and mourners to pay their last respects. The gun carriage carrying the body started off for the cremation ground at around 1:15 pm. Jaitley was cremated at around 3 pm at the Nigambodh Ghat with full state honours. The Ghat is located on the banks of the Yamuna river coast, situated on the Ring Road at the back of the historic Red Fort. Just after the cremation, it began to rain heavily and the movement of the VVIPs was also affected briefly as some of them got stuck in traffic after leaving the crematorium.
