Gurugram: Born into a Punjabi household in Lahore, Arun Jaitley alongside his family moved to Delhi during the partition. In due course of time, Jaitley witnessed the growth of Delhi and its neighboring areas and in effect also benefited from the experience. Gurugram was like a second home to the former finance minister who had investments in two residential properties and commercial properties. In the affidavit filed by him, Jaitley disclosed that he had flat on the Golf Course road that despite the downturn in the real estate is estimated to be worth crores. He also had commercial property in the Cyber greens tower, in an area that has already witnessed a lot of uptrend because of the presence of multinational companies. Moreover, he also had a farmhouse on the Gurugram-Faridabad road. If one goes through the affidavit of Jaitley, it is evident that he had more investments in Gurugram than even in Delhi, a city where he grew and prospered. Well known as a foodie, sources highlight that Jaitley used to be regular in the party circles of Gurugram given that most of his friends from the legal and business community also had their residences in Gurugram. As BJP grew stronger in the city and in the state, the 66-year-old made sure that he visited the city frequently. Most of his official visits to the city as Finance Minister was for purpose of overseeing the educational and innovation centers as he realized the significance of the growth of Medium-scale micro industries (MSME) in Manesar and Bawal. Furthermore he was instrumental in inaugurating the corporate affairs department and the data centre in the industrial area. His most memorable visits were to educational institutions like the Management Development Institute (MDI) and NASSCOM events. In 2016 he visited the convocation of the SGT University and his address to the students is still considered as the best convocation speech that has been ever delivered to the students. Reminiscing, one of the senior teachers of the university mentioned how he encouraged the students to always aspire for being at the top even though it involves taking risks. "You become a part of the crowd when you perform the tasks that are being performed by everyone, it is only when you aspire to be in a different league that you make a mark for yourself," Jaitley had said.
