New Delhi, September 13 Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today said that principals of Delhi Government schools would be attending a leadership training programme at Cambridge. “We are proud of the journey we have undertaken so far in such a short span of time. While the opportunity at Cambridge will help you get a global and advanced perspective on school system, we need to assess and adapt those things in our own context to be true leaders of schools,” said Sisodia while addressing the 60 principals of Government Schools who are going to attend eight days leadership training programme at UK’s Cambridge University this month. Sisodia encouraged the principles to use this opportunity to understand the best practices in the education system in UK and explore new ideas that can challenge the monotony that persists in our education system. He also exhorted them to learn about the extent of autonomy and accountability enjoyed by the school principals in UK and the evolution of British school education system in past five to six decades. He further emphasised that they should visit Cambridge with “a curious and questioning mindset and not confine themselves as merely training seekers”. He asked them to share the new initiatives of Delhi Government like ‘Happiness Curriculum’ and the ‘Entrepreneurship Mindset Curriculum’ with their counterparts there. Interacting with the Minister, the principals also shared their own expectations from the trip. It ranged from understanding the goal of education in British society to use technology in teaching and learning activities in their schools. They also wished to understand the challenges faced by school administrators in the UK and how they address it. They also wished to know what the schools do to instill curiosity among their students and how they managed to produce so many Nobel laureates in past 50-60 years. The batch of 60 principals will be visiting the UK in two batches of 30 each this year. Before these two batches, 189 school principals have visited Cambridge in the past two years. Apart from this, the Delhi Government has been regularly sending its principals and teachers to Finland, Singapore, Germany, Japan and USA for similar training sessions.
