New Delhi: The Delhi Police have identified 75 street crime hot spots in the city. Police sources said that these places were identified on the basis of street crime calls related to robbery, snatching and eve-teasing. Police sources told Millennium Post that the city police had identified these vulnerable places before the launching of street crime vehicles Prakhar. These vehicles were meant to be located close to the street crime hot spots and to patrol the areas intensively to prevent, react quickly against street crimes. Areas like Rohini Sector-24, Rohini Sector-21, Bawana Industrial Areas in Sector 2&4, Akshardham Temple, Jalebi Chowk Sultanpuri, Rohini Sector 15, Mukarba Chowk, Burari Chowk Ring Road, Shastri Park Red light, Inderprastha flyover ITO, Britania Chowk, Sarai Kale Khan, Vishvas Nagar road, Rani Bagh market, B-block red light Mangol Puri, Delhi Gate red light,Punjabi Bagh Ring road, Mayur Vihar phase 3 (Pocket A-3), Ramdev Chowk Narela, Sant Nagar Burari, Dabri More, India Gate, South Ex market, Moti Bagh Chowk, Hastal Chowk were among 75 areas identified by city police. Sources said that an officer of Joint Commissioner of Police (JCP) rank in the city police has asked districts to identify three base stations and patrol beats in the district for effective deployment of these vehicles. Later on September 25, G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Affairs flagged off Prakhar vans to control street crimes in national Capital. "Delhi Police inducted 15 Scorpios with modern devices for extensive patrolling in street crime-prone areas of Delhi. These vans are initially deployed at 15 crime-prone locations and will be increased further as per the requirements of Delhi," reads Delhi Police press statement. The Delhi Police data revealed that in the current year, till September, as many as 4,762 cases of snatchings were reported in which 2,686 cases were solved and 3,777 people were arrested for their involvement in the crime. "In the current year, as many as 1,558 cases of robbery were reported in which 1407 were solved and 2,658 people were arrested," data revealed. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Mandeep Singh Randhawa said that they have taken several steps to curb crime in the city.
