1 held for duping US national

When he walked out of the airport, a taxi driver offered him a taxi. He asked the taxi driver to drop him at a Boom Rooms hotel in Pahar Ganj. After travelling for some time, the taxi driver stopped at the police barricades. "The tourist office pretended to help the foreigner and made a call saying that it was being connected to hotel Boom Rooms. On reaching Agra, he contacted hotel Boom Rooms over the phone and was informed that their hotel was not closed and he had been cheated.

New Delhi: George Vanmeter III, a US national was misguided and cheated of his money by the tout and his associates in the New Delhi area. Police have arrested one accused in the case. According to police on October 20, one US national, resident of Colorado reported that he arrived at IGI airport from the USA in the night of October 18. When he walked out of the airport, a taxi driver offered him a taxi. He asked the taxi driver to drop him at a Boom Rooms hotel in Pahar Ganj. After travelling for some time, the taxi driver stopped at the police barricades. He informed him that the roads leading to the said hotel are blocked due to festival season. He took him to a tourist office situated at Outer Circle in Connaught Place where he was informed that Delhi was closed. "The tourist office pretended to help the foreigner and made a call saying that it was being connected to hotel Boom Rooms. The person on the other side posed himself as staff of the hotel and informed the complainant that their hotel was also closed," said DCP Singhal. However, when he was not convinced, he was asked to take an auto to try and reach the hotel. He was made to hire the auto waiting outside the tourist office. The auto driver too informed him of the same thing. He was taken to another tourist office situated in Gole Market. The official of this office also misguided him and prepared a tour plan to Agra and Jaipur and charged 1294 Dollar that was paid through Credit Card. On reaching Agra, he contacted hotel Boom Rooms over the phone and was informed that their hotel was not closed and he had been cheated. DCP Singhal said that they have arrested one TSR driver identified as Ram Preet has been arrested. Others are at large and the efforts are being made to arrest them. "The investigation of the case is in progress. We will arrest other accused involved in the case," said DCP Singhal.
