No concrete decision after JNUSU and MHRD meet

"After the brutal violence Delhi Police unleashed on JNU students yesterday, the MHRD had called the JNUSU for a talk today. The meeting is to continue tomorrow," said a statement from JNUSU. Meanwhile, JNUSU also said that they have always been open for dialogue with the MHRD and have put "forth categorically certain conditions for the restoration of normalcy." On the other hand, JNU Teachers' Association (JNUTA) on Tuesday gave a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. The JNUTA once again reminds the MHRD of its abdication of responsibility which is allowing the JNU VC to continue with his reckless ways and threatening the future of students."

New Delhi: Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) on Tuesday met with the officials of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) to discuss the issue of fee hike among other things, however nothing concrete was finalised, while the meeting is said to continue on Wednesday. "After the brutal violence Delhi Police unleashed on JNU students yesterday, the MHRD had called the JNUSU for a talk today. Although some discussions took place, nothing was finalized. The meeting is to continue tomorrow," said a statement from JNUSU. Meanwhile, JNUSU also said that they have always been open for dialogue with the MHRD and have put "forth categorically certain conditions for the restoration of normalcy." "These conditions including the roll back of the fee hike and the IHA meeting, along with other demands have remained the same since the first day of our movement, and have been communicated once more to the MHRD. The responsibility for normalcy not remaining in the campus lies at the doorstep of the administration," they added. On the other hand, JNU Teachers Association (JNUTA) on Tuesday gave a letter to President Ram Nath Kovind demanding the resignation of Vice-Chancellor Mamidala Jagadesh Kumar. "The letter spelt out in detail the history of autocratic mis-governance of JNU by the VC – involving violation of the JNU Act, Statutes and Ordinances, the centralization of power and throttling of all democratic discussion and deliberation, the widespread use of coercion against teachers and students, financial mismanagement, etc. – and their destructive consequences for the environment for teaching-learning and research as well as on the socially inclusive character that has been JNUs hallmark," added the JNUTA statement. JNUTA said that the administrations threat to use police to conduct exams is a way to intimidate students and teachers, but neither will budge. Standing with solidarity with the students, JNUTA said, "The administrations attempt to force the conduct of examinations without taking measures to restore normalcy amounts to putting the cart before the horse and conscientious teachers cannot participate in this travesty. The JNUTA once again reminds the MHRD of its abdication of responsibility which is allowing the JNU VC to continue with his reckless ways and threatening the future of students."
