Tihar authorities seek services of two hangmen from UP police

In a recent move, the administration of Delhi's Tihar jail has written Uttar Pradesh police seeking the services of two hangmen. A senior officer at Tihar jail confirmed that they have sent a letter to the UP police. Meanwhile, Director General (DG) of UP Prisons (Administration and Reform Services), Anand Kumar said that they received a request letter from the Tihar prison on December 9 in which they seek services of the two hangmen of UP. He told the media that he is prepared to carry out the execution if he will be asked by Tihar jail administration. One accused Ram Singh, committed suicide inside Tihar jail.

New Delhi: Nirbhaya rape-murder convicts may be hanged soon, speculation which is getting stronger with each passing day. In a recent move, the administration of Delhis Tihar jail has written Uttar Pradesh police seeking the services of two hangmen. A senior officer at Tihar jail confirmed that they have sent a letter to the UP police. "We have asked them if they can provide the services of hangman whenever it is required," the official said, adding that they have not received any reply from UP police. The official did not divulge details related to the case for which they wanted hangmen. Sources said that in the letter, the date and timings were not mentioned by the authorities. Earlier this month, Tihar authorities directed officials at a jail in Bihar to prepare ropes which are used for executions. Meanwhile, Director General (DG) of UP Prisons (Administration and Reform Services), Anand Kumar said that they received a request letter from the Tihar prison on December 9 in which they seek services of the two hangmen of UP. The letter further claimed that some convicts in Tihar jail have been awarded capital punishment and their legal and constitutional remedies had been exhausted. UP prison administration has two hangmen. Recently, MHA had received the mercy plea of one of the convicts after it was rejected by the Delhi government. The Delhi government had recommended the rejection of the mercy petition of one of the convicts in the case after which the petition was placed before the Lieutenant-Governor of Delhi for consideration and subsequently was sent to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. Amid all the speculations, several hangmen came forward and expressing their desire to hang the rapists. The recent one was Pawan Jallad, an executioner in the Meerut Jail. He told the media that he is prepared to carry out the execution if he will be asked by Tihar jail administration. On December 16, 2012, a 23-year-old paramedic was raped and brutally tortured by six persons in a moving bus. She was accompanied by a friend who was also beaten up and later, both of them were thrown out of the vehicle. The girl had suffered critical injuries and later died during treatment. Of the six persons convicted, one was a minor and was released. One accused Ram Singh, committed suicide inside Tihar jail.
