GHAZIABAD/G B NAGAR: There is a sudden increase in the number of calls received at Uttar Pradesh Police distress number "112" as people are unable to go out from their homes and are trying ways to get groceries and other essential needs. Cops said that police have received over a hundred calls from various numbers and their items were delivered by police PRV vehicles. "Following the orders received from the state government and opting all the possible measures to ensure that people do not step out of their homes, we are managing delivery of groceries, vegetables, fruits, medicines and other essential needs to people at their door steps. On Wednesday, we received around 105 calls till 6 p.m. and what all they needed was delivered at their doorstep" said Kalanidhi Naithani, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Ghaziabad. "Police delivered food, pressure cooker, groceries and any other item needed by people. Priority is being given to senior citizens, women who are alone at home along with kids and persons with physical ailment. We will ensure that police remain on their toes 24*7 to help people. Also we have written to the administration to rope in volunteers from civil defence to work along with police in providing doorstep deliveries of essential items to people," the officer added. Along with delivering food and groceries, cops are also keeping a close watch on lockdown violators and are registering separate cases against them. In Ghaziabad, police registered 154 cases under IPC Section 188 and booked 696 persons. Police also issued challan to 5,637 vehicles and seized 244 other vehicles for violation norms of lockdown and traffic regulations. Similarly in Gautam Buddh Nagar, around 405 cases under IPC Section 188 were registered against 1,324 persons. Police also issued challan to 2,576 vehicles and seized 276 other vehicles for violation norms of lockdown and traffic regulations. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath in a statement said that close to 4,500 police response vehicles (PRVs) as well as vehicles owned by governments food department and other government vehicles will help in delivering products at peoples doorsteps while appealing that they stay inside their homes instead of going to the grocery stores.
