GURUGRAM: There have been over 750 people in Gurugram who have participated as volunteers at the times when large number of people faced difficulties during lockdown. With the management skills of the administration being exposed with exodus of migrated labourers, most of the volunteers have been enrolled into distribution of essential items to the deprived people. The district administration is also making the process of allowing more volunteers to join the relief work. The enormity of the task being carried out by the volunteers can be gauged from the fact that on Sunday a target of distributing food packets for 50,000 poor families was set by the administration. Most of the resident groups have set up community kitchen to distribute food items. In addition to the registered volunteers, there are also others who are doing their bit to help. Sumedha Sharma, who is a class teacher in Gurugram and a resident of Sector-9 along with her daughter, prepares food for over 300 people in and around her locality. In the same way, Neeru Sharma began to do her bit by preparing masks from cloth. There are now plans to utilise the services of volunteers as means to provide transportation, education and strengthen the supply chain management. "I think this is the best time for me to show that I really care for my country and my people. I am doing my bit by distributing essential food items to the deprived sections. I hope I can reach maximum number of people," said Nishant, one of the volunteers. Taking cognisance of the fact that the worst impact of the lockdown is going to be felt in Gurugram, the district authorities urged the corporates to come forward and contribute through corporate social responsibility. It has also been announced that a portal will be created by the state government wherein citizens in their individual or organisational level can provide financial or social services to deal with the probable losses during the lockdown. Most of the top corporates have paid heed to the Haryana Chief Ministers request and have began to contribute a substantial amount of their salary to the Haryana Corona Relief Fund.
