Former IES officer arrested for duping Ayurveda guru of Rs 5 crore

new delhi: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police arrested a former Indian Engineering Service (IES) officer for duping an Ayurveda guru for Rs 5 crore. "Jha also introduced his wife Bindu Jha as an expert person and having all technical knowledge to run a TV channel,"he said. Accused also apprised him that he had earlier worked in Doordarshan and they were also directors of another company, Viceroy Engineers Pvt. Ltd.) and assured that apart from this, they will create the required infrastructure forthe TV channel. "On this, the complainant had given amount of around Rs 5 crores for the purchase of the TV channel.

According to police, the accused had induced on the pretext of establishing his own TV channel. Police said that complainant in the case Pandit Laxman Das Bhardwaj, an Ayurveda Guru, came in contact with the accused Sunil Kumar Jha as he wanted to promote his Ayurveda items and spiritual perches. Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW) OP Mishra said Jha introduced himself as channel head of Katyani Devotional and complainant started telecasting his programmes through the said channel. "Jha also introduced his wife Bindu Jha as an expert person and having all technical knowledge to run a TV channel," he said. Accused also apprised him that he had earlier worked in Doordarshan and they were also directors of another company, Viceroy Engineers Pvt. Ltd. The complainant alleged that after developing good relations and trust with him, alleged person made a proposal and induced him to establish his own TV channel by purchasing major shares of a company (Express Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd.) and assured that apart from this, they will create the required infrastructure for the TV channel. "On this, the complainant had given amount of around Rs 5 crores for the purchase of the TV channel. Later on, the complainant came to know that accused had purchased the TV channel Sanskriti in the name of his wife and one Vineet Vashisht through shareholding of Express Broadcasting Pvt. Ltd. and cheated the complainant," police said. Subsequently, the accused was arrested on July 3. Earliar, he worked as Deputy Director in Doordarshan (Jodhpur) and had been convicted in a criminal case filed by Doordarshan with regard to cheating and misappropriation of goods from the stores of Doordarshan.
