PM Modi unfurls Tricolor on I-Day from Red Fort; Key announcements

Prime Minister Narendra Modi unfurled the Tricolour flag at the ramparts of Red Fort, on the occasion of 74th Independence Day in Delhi. Unlike every year, the celebration was limited for a certain number of invitees only.

The ceremony was conducted following strict Covid-19 protocols with thermal screening, masks and social distancing.

Before arriving at Red Fort, PM Modi visited Raj Ghat and paid his tribute to Mahatma Gandhi.

PM Modi started his speech with paying tribute to freedom fighters and Covid-19 warriors. His speech was filled with references to Covid-19 situation and Atmanirbhar Bharat.

He also focused on being ‘vocal for local’. "The mindset of free India should be `vocal for local`. We should appreciate our local products, if we don`t do this then our products will not get the opportunity to do better and will not get encouraged", he said.

PM Modi informed that a 1 lakh crore of agriculture infrastructure fund has been created. Talking about the New Education Policy he said, "Education has a key role in the making of Aatmanirbhar, modern, new and prosperous India. So, we have brought the new education policy after three decades that has been welcomed throughout the country, which instils new confidence."

One of the biggest announcement made was of National Digital Health Mission. Where medical records of every Indian will be digitalised and unique health ID will be provided to everyone.

He also informed that three Covid-19 vaccines are being prepared in India, which are in different stages of trials right now. The blueprint to distribute those vaccines has been also prepared.

Brining in J&k, PM Modi said J&K has witnessed one year of development and elections will be held soon in J&K once delimitation exercise is completed.

He also talked about connecting Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep islands with internet connectivity. His speech was almost 90 Minutes.
