Kejriwal briefs PM Modi on Delhi coronavirus situation, seeks 1,000 ICU beds from Centre

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the PM’s meeting with chief ministers on the coronavirus situation across states. Kejriwal informed PM Modi on the recent third wave of coronavirus cases that Delhi saw and sought an additional 1,000 ICU beds from the Centre.

New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the PM’s meeting with chief ministers on the coronavirus situation across states. Kejriwal informed PM Modi on the recent third wave of coronavirus cases that Delhi saw and sought an additional 1,000 ICU beds from the Centre.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal informed PM Modi that Delhi recently saw a peak of 8,600 coronavirus cases on November 10, which was the third peak that the national capital saw. “Since then, fresh coronavirus cases and positivity rate have been decreasing steadily. We hope this trend continues,” Kejriwal said in the meeting with PM Modi. Kejriwal also told PM Modi that the high severity of the third wave of coronavirus is due to many factors among which pollution is an important factor. CM Kejriwal sought PM Modi’s intervention to get rid of air pollution caused by stubble burning in adjoining states. Kejriwal went on to point at the recent experiment with a bio-decomposer developed by an agricultural institute that successfully dissolves the stubble and appealed for a solution to the problem.

CM Kejriwal also sought reservation of 1,000 additional ICU beds in central government hospitals till the third wave lasts in Delhi. Delhi on Monday saw over 4,454 fresh coronavirus cases while also reporting 121 deaths in 24 hours. Delhi’s total number of coronavirus cases now stand at 5,34,317 while over 8,500 people have died so far. This was the sixth time in 12 days that the daily number of deaths crossed the 100-mark in the national capital. Authorities reported 121 deaths due to Covid-19 on Sunday, 111 on Saturday, 118 on Friday, 131 on November 18, the highest till date, and 104 on November 12.
