A Day That May Go Down In History As A Blot Which Could Have Been Avoided- Dissent Redefined!

What transpired in the three spots of the farmer`s Tractor march is difficult to be defined whether it is a battle between the democratic norms and the people of India.

But the surcharged situation when the farmers have dared to cross over all the barriers of restrictions reveals that there is much more to happen in the days to come.

Laying siege to the ITO square in the heart of the national capital and the showdown with the police force resulting in a fierce scuffle between the cops was of course uncalled for.

It was at points far beyond the realms of the Gandhian philosophy which the farmer leaders kept vouching for the last one week.

In their bid to reach out to the Lalquila the agitating farmers on board tractors resorting to welding of swords and pelting of stones were a violation of a non - violent rally has turned violent.

Several fisticuffs between the cops and farmers led to the pelting of stones on the cops and the firing of teargas shells do speak of somewhere the essence of freedom getting sullied by high-handed approach to the agitation on way to Lalquila through Daryaganj.

Why did the farmers surged into the area of the ITO  square is a big question mark raised on the intention of the agitating farmers and the lapses of the security forces.

It was hardly expected that on a day of celebration the unfolding of flags on tip of the Lalquila by the farmers is an issue that should necessitate a relook at the ways in which the entire thing has been handled by both, the government and the farmers on the streets.

However,  the damage is done and the message from the happenings of Tuesday would go far. Whether miscreants infiltrated into the agitation to create the situation spiraling out of control, is something the farmers should realise that the freedom to dissent cannot bulldoze the ethics of dissent.

In any form of democratic structure, history tells us that on issues of difference in opinion, months and years had been spent before thrashing out a mutually acceptable middle path. Does that miss in the present situation?
