Opposition should introspect about its "irresponsible" remarks on Covid vaccination drive: Nadda

New Delhi, Sep 20 (PTI) The Opposition parties should introspect about their "irresponsible" statements on the COVID-19 vaccination programme of the Modi government that has proved to be the "biggest and fastest" in the world, BJP president J P Nadda said on Monday. During a visit to a vaccination centre at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here, he congratulated and thanked the team of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, state health ministers, medical fraternity and people for making the vaccination campaign a "success". Over 2.5 crore people were vaccinated on Prime Minister Narendra Modi"s 71st birthday on September 17, setting a world record. It proves that this campaign is the "biggest and fastest" in the world, Nadda said. "The Opposition parties should introspect about their silence on 2.5 crore vaccinations on September 17 and their irresponsible and laughable statements in the past one year on the vaccination drive. They should think about what impression they have left on the society and their role in a democracy," he said. Nadda also accused the Opposition parties of "conspiring to derail the vaccination drive" and trying to "defame and malign" image of the country globally, according to a statement from the BJP. "The manner in which the Opposition parties have given highly irresponsible and negative statements regarding the Corona vaccination drive in the past one year and even conspired to derail it and tried to defame and malign the image of India globally is highly condemnable and very unfortunate," the statement quoted him as saying. The Opposition parties "raised objections and cast aspersions" at a crucial time when the entire country under the leadership and guidance of Prime Minister Modi was "wholeheartedly" supporting the pan-India vaccination drive and making it a "big success", Nadda said. India in a "very short span" has administered 84 crore vaccine shots, the "highest" in the world, Nadda claimed. It was Nadda"s second visit to the AIIMS vaccination centre since the drive began earlier this year. He interacted with people who had come for vaccination at the centre and the medical staff and thanked them for making the drive a success. The visit by the BJP president was part of the party"s 20-day mega campaign, titled "Sewa Aur Samarpan Abhiyan", launched on Modi"s birthday. Nadda was accompanied by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandavia, AIIMS Director Randeep Guleria and Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, added the statement. PTI VIT SMN SMN
