Officials highlight PM Modi"s presence at national meetings to infuse "Team India" spirit

New Delhi, Sep 22 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the National Conference of Environment Ministers of all states on Friday via video conferencing.  Official sources said Modi"s participation in such national conferences with an audience of predominantly states" policymakers follows a pattern, and represents a conscious attempt on his part to provide national perspective and outlook to state leaders while nurturing the spirit of cooperative federalism and "Team India".   They gave several such examples to make their point. On September 10, the prime minister inaugurated the "Centre-State Science Conclave" in Ahmedabad via video conferencing, they noted, adding he had also addressed the National Labour Conference of Labour Ministers of all States and UTs on August 25. He had gone to Dharamshala on June 16 to attend the two-day national conference of chief secretaries, first such conclave, where he brainstormed with the seniormost bureaucrats of the country for better implementation of various policies, sources said. He had also inaugurated the joint conference of chief minister and chief justices of high courts on April 30. They said Modi"s leadership in nurturing the spirit of "Team India" via organisation of such national conferences can be best exemplified by timely and periodic meetings with the CMs of states and UTs during the Covid pandemic. From March 2020 till April 2022, Modi chaired 20 such meetings.  This coordination also came handy in the successful implementation of world"s biggest Covid vaccination programme, they said. "Similarly, the prime minister has taken keen interest in the annual DGP/IGP conferences and has ensured that he attends each conference organised since 2014. The annual conferences, which used to be customarily organised in Delhi before 2014, are now being organised across the country, with an exception of 2020, when it was organised through Video conferencing," one official said. In another example of his commitment to developing the national perspective on policy matters by involving all stakeholders, Modi chaired seven Governing Council meetings of NITI Aayog in the last eight years, they said. Similarly, he has addressed multiple national conference of governors, where he has emphasised on ensuring national development and meeting the needs of the common man, they added. "Further, there are instances of the prime minister"s participation in national conferences for improvement of farmer"s income, women development, and on diverse issues like tourism, culture, sports, e-Governance etc," a source said. They said he attended the national conferences on "Agriculture-2022: Doubling Farmers" Incomes in 2018", on Sustainable Agriculture & Farmers Welfare at Gangtok in 2016, on Legislators Conference in the Central Hall of Parliament in 2018 among other such meetings.
