New Delhi, Oct. 3: The Network Planning Group (NPG) constituted under the institutional framework of ‘PM GatiShakti’ has recommended three important road connectivity projects.

These are the construction of a four-lane highway linking Gazipur to Ballia in Uttar Pradesh which is close to the border with Bihar. The new road will greatly improve the connectivity in eastern U.P. and make travel to Bihar smooth.

The other two major projects include improvement and up-grade of the existing road from two-lane to four–lane in western Uttar Pradesh and bypasses connecting UP and Uttarakhand.

All three projects are important for the improvement and upgrade of the roadways in view of multi-modality, easier commute, and land acquisition. The construction of the new road projects were approved after thorough discussions at the meeting.

The four-lane highway will connect the economic centers of Lucknow, Varanasi, Azamgarh and Mau cities. This will ensure the shortest connectivity from south Bihar to Delhi.

At Buxer a bridge on river Ganga is being constructed with spur, which will enhance the connectivity of south Bihar to Delhi. The project will reduce travel time between Lucknow – Patna by 3.5 Km/hr for seamless traffic, and interstate connectivity. The highway will serve Lucknow’s defense corridor at two points (Banaras and Pruvanchal expressway).

Another proposal was to make the two-lane roads into four- lanes for upgrade and improvement of the roads. The third proposal is for a four-lane bypass Palia – Shahjahanpur – Hardoi – Lucknow. This project is a part of the strategic border roads of Indo – the Nepal border road project (INBRP) of the Ministry of Home Affairs providing connectivity to Indo–Nepal border and facilitating SSB mobility. It will also ensure connectivity to Hardoi National Park, and enhance the freight flow and traffic movement.

The proposed four-lane bypass project (brown-field) is aimed at decongesting, and reducing travel time. The project provides interstate connectivity between Uttar Pradesh- Uttarakhand economic centers of the region. It serves as a trade route for India – Bangladesh, and India- Bhutan – Bangladesh. It will provide connectivity to Jim Corbett National Park as well.

The members of the Network Planning Group have further suggested certain components of integrated planning and synchronized implementation concepts and have ensured faster clearance and support for the projects. Through PM GatiShakti NMP, it shall be possible to implement these projects in the coming years.
