Accelerating Business Actions for Realising Sustainable Development Goals

The Stein Auditorium, a conclave of esteemed leaders convened to discuss the pressing need for accelerating business actions in alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. The event, chaired by Mr. Sanjay Seth, Vice President & CEO of the GRIHA Council, shed light on the current progress, challenges, and the path forward towards achieving these critical goals.

Ms. Neha Upadhyay, Founder of Guna Organics, passionately advocated for increased women representation in sustainable initiatives, focusing on the transformative power of organic farming and solar energy. Her organisation`s remarkable achievements in Ladakh, including significant carbon reduction and support for flash flood victims, underscored the tangible impact of such efforts on local communities.

Mr. Yasuo Takahashi, Executive Director of the Institute for Global Environmental Strategies, highlighted the essential role of research and collaboration in addressing biodiversity and economic concerns. He elaborated on the importance of standardised frameworks for taxonomy, disclosure, and investment opportunities to drive global synergy towards sustainable practices.

Mr. Manish Chourasia, COO of Tata Capital Limited, emphasised the shift in corporate focus towards environmental responsibility and the need for clear standards and penalties to achieve net-zero emissions. His insights underscored the urgency for robust execution frameworks and increased investment in clean energy technologies.

Mr. Vineet Handa, Founder and CEO of Kaizzen PR Services Pvt. Ltd., stressed the significance of behavioural change and effective communication in driving sustainable practices. He called for a shift from a compliance mindset to an initiative mindset, emphasising the role of businesses in influencing positive change.

Dr. Livleen Kahlon, Senior Fellow at TERI, explained the importance of a happy planet for sustainable development and highlighted the growing demand for green jobs. She underscored the need for upskilling and advocacy to foster a mass movement towards sustainability.

A representative of J Sagar and Associates Advocates and Solicitors, underscored the critical role of a robust legal framework in facilitating green investments and ensuring trust between stakeholders. The challenges posed by regulatory inconsistencies, especially in the energy sector, were acknowledged as barriers to sustainable development.

The discussions at the Stein Auditorium underscored the imperative for collective action and collaboration across sectors to accelerate progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals. By embracing innovation, fostering inclusivity, and advocating for systemic change, businesses can play a pivotal role in building a more sustainable and resilient future for all.
