Bidhuri criticises AAP conduct in Chandigarh Mayoral poll case

  • | Thursday | 22nd February, 2024

Leader of the opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Ramvir Singh Bidhuri on Wednesday here criticized the Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) over its conduct in the Chandigarh mayoral election case and said the party, which claims to uphold democracy, should take a moment to look into its own actions.  He said in the elections for the standing committee members in the Delhi Municipal Corporation, the AAP adopted authoritarian and unconstitutional practices, and after court orders, the election of three BJP members was declared valid. Bidhuri said while according to the rules, the Chandigarh mayoral case cannot be discussed in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, it was brought up in the Assembly by breaking the rules, although this matter does not fall within the jurisdiction of the Assembly. Therefore, Bidhuri left the Assembly when this matter was raised. Bidhudi recalled that last year, on February 24, when elections were underway for the standing committee of the Delhi Municipal Corporation, AAPs mayor Shaili Oberoi not only declared valid votes invalid but also announced to conduct the standing committee elections again.  Surprisingly, for conducting these elections, the Election Commission had sent its representatives, but the AAP was not even ready to heed the officials of the Election Commission. When the BJP took this matter to the Delhi High Court, in May, the High Court not only declared the invalid votes as valid but also invalidated the decision to conduct the elections again by the Mayor. Bidhuri said the AAP is currently making noise, but in reality, it does not believe in democracy. While we respect the Supreme Courts decision in the Chandigarh mayoral election case, the other aspect of the picture is that the AAP does not have a majority in the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation. In the council of 35 members, the AAP has only 10 members, while the BJP has 18 members.  He said the murder of democracy by the AAP is not an isolated incident. By suppressing the voice of the opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly, it continuously mocks democracy.  Taking a dig at Kejriwals statement in Delhi Assembly,  Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that Kejriwal, like many other opposition leaders across the country, has lost his political balance & is frustrated due to the visible wave in favor of the BJP thanks to the rising global image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the construction of the Ram Temple.
