Woman nabbed for killing mother over property dispute after a year

Delhi Police, on Friday, have arrested a 46-year-old woman accused of murdering her own mother in the citys Ranhola area, nearly a year after the brutal crime took place. The arrest comes after months of evasive tactics by the accused, who had been absconding since the incident, which occurred on December 30, 2023. Her younger sister, who was also involved in the murder, had been arrested shortly after the crime. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora, the murder was motivated by a bitter family feud over ancestral property. The two sisters were reportedly enraged after their mother allegedly took the side of their brother in a dispute over land distribution. This ultimately led them to plan and execute the gruesome killing of their mother. On the morning of the incident, the elderly woman had gone to her agricultural plot to feed the cattle. Later that day, her daughter-in-law entered the fodder room in search of a broom and accidentally touched her blood-soaked face in the dark, as the lights were not working. Alarmed, she called her husband, and the family soon discovered the womans lifeless body with her throat slit. The police were informed immediately. Initial investigation pointed toward a property dispute within the family. The daughters, particularly the elder one, were allegedly distressed over their mothers support for their brother in the division of the family estate. During interrogation, the elder daughter admitted that she and her sister had plotted the murder out of anger and financial desperation. The family dispute escalated when the father had allotted a 600-square-yard plot to the younger daughter, which the brother allegedly tried to encroach upon. The mounting tension led to the sisters feeling betrayed by their mother, whom they believed had taken the brothers side. On the day of the crime, both sisters booked a cab to Ranhola. According to the police, while the younger sister entered the property and attacked their mother with a kitchen knife, the elder sister waited outside to assist in the escape. After committing the murder, the duo fled the scene. A non-bailable warrant was issued against the elder daughter, and she was declared a proclaimed offender by a Delhi court earlier this year. Following extensive efforts and intelligence gathering, she was finally arrested from Nanda Enclave in Najafgarh based on a tip-off about her whereabouts. The police revealed that she had been using multiple SIM cards and frequently changing locations to avoid being caught. Police investigations are ongoing, and the accused is now in custody.
