New Delhi: As the admission process picks up pace, seats in some colleges are filling up fast. Two working days after the first cutoff list was declared, two colleges — Hindu and Daulat Ram — have already taken in 500 students. Shri Ram College of Commerce, Lady Shri Ram and Sri Aurobindo are not far behind with 486, 480 and 434, respectively.Students, however, continue to complain about technical glitches — this time, these are mostly related to making payment or selecting colleges.A total of 126 admissions were completed for economics (H) at SRCC and, with a day left, the college is unlikely to have a second cutoff list for the subject in the open category. Of the 501 seats in BCom (H), SRCC has filled 360 seats and there could be a marginal decrease in the second cutoff. The office of the dean of students' welfare and help desks were flooded with queries related to payments and complaints about portal technical malfunctions on Tuesday.Mallika Gupta — who had applied for at least four subjects in the centralised online DU form — claimed that though she wasn't able to pay her fees, she had received a confirmation message that her registration was complete. "On Monday, when I rechecked the portal for colleges I could get admission to, only Jesus and Mary College was listed among the options. My Class XII score was in the 80s and there is no way I would get admission there," she said.Since no other college was listed in her application form, she didn't have any other option even in the subsequent cutoff lists, rued Gupta. Many students had questions about deductions due to stream change. The scene was a bit less chaotic at Shri Ram College of Commerce, though. However, issues related to certificates continued to crop up. Parents of students from Tamil Nadu board lamented that though they were lucky to get a grace period of 10 days to submit documents, it would mean another trip to Delhi. "The process is so inefficient. Why can't the university just access provisional marksheets online and take the printout for now until the originals are submitted?" asked a parent. At Kirori Mal College, helpdesks were set up at several points and students found the admission process smooth. Richa Kumari, who secured a seat in physics (H), said verification of her documents didn't take long as there was plenty of assistance available. For more popular courses, such as BA (Sanskrit), there was a bigger crowd. "We were here at 10am and are still not done at 1pm," said Poornima, who was at the college to assist her brother. In off-campus colleges, BA programme and BCom were the most sought-after courses on the first two days of admission. With cutoffs of BA programme at 89 at Maitreyi College and 88 at Dyal Singh, the seats were filling up fast. "The process seems quick enough. The volunteers are really helpful here," said a woman whose daughter was seeking admission to BA (H) Sociology at Maitreyi.Meanwhile, members of NSUI and DUSU submitted a memorandum to the dean, seeking directions to college principals to give students from Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Assam provisional admission till they could submit their original documents.
