New Delhi: Unable to draw his wife's attention, a 32-year-old man brutally thrashed his three-year-old stepson and then strangulated him to death in Karawal Nagar on Sunday.The accused father was later arrested, police said.Police said that the man, Mahesh, took, Arjun, out at 6am on Sunday, informing his wife that he would get back by afternoon. Instead, he called one of his cousins in the evening and informed him about having killed him.Police received a call about the incident at 8.15pm, following which a team rushed to the spot and recovered the body.On Sunday, Mahesh took the child to a nearby factory that was closed and started beating him and smashed his head on the ground. He then strangulated him to death.He told his cousin, Rinku, that he disposed of the body beneath a heap of rags at the factory. Rinku later informed Kiran, the accused's wife, who, in turn, informed the police."A team, led by SHO Karawal Nagar, Sunil Kumar, was formed and the body was recovered from the factory," said Ajit Kumar Singla, deputy commissioner of police (northeast).SHO Kumar asked Kiran to call Mahesh and tell him that the boy was alive. Baffled, Mahesh switched his phone off and reached Anand Vihar bus stand. But before he could do so, police nabbed him.Kiran told police that that Mahesh used to frequently abuse her. He would often return home drunk and would not even contribute to household expenses.Mahesh told police that he felt that Kiran's attention was completely on her son and she never devoted time to him. Her constant comparison of Mahesh with her first husband would make him angry.To gain her attention, he planned to kill Arjun. Mahesh told police that he wanted to have a child with Kiran which she had refused.
