Staff of district govt hospital go on strike

Thousand of patients in Noida were left in the lurch on Monday as 110 employees of the district government hospital went on strike over pending salaries and non-renewal of contracts. To ease its burden, the authority had recently written a letter to the State government to bear the expenses of the hospital. “If we don't get salary within a week then we will go again on strike,” said Rajesh Kumar, a contract employee. The contract staff mostly work as paramedical personnel, ward boys, nurses and sweepers. The hospital is supported by the Noida authority, which is itself reeling under a financial crisis.

The employees went on strike around 8 a.m. CMO assures redressal They eventually resumed their duties in the afternoon after assurances were given by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) that salaries of past two months would be released within a week. “If we don't get salary within a week then we will go again on strike,” said Rajesh Kumar, a contract employee. The strike mainly affected OPD patients. “My wife is admitted in the hospital. She was supposed to be taken for a test but there was no ward boy. When I took my wife on a stretcher, I was told that the test could not be conducted as there was no staff,” said Ram Kumar, who hails from Bihar. The hospital is supported by the Noida authority, which is itself reeling under a financial crisis.
